WELCOME, TO THE HISTORY OF MCYA-USA Welcome to Mienh Christian Youth Association (MCYA-USA). We appreciate your interest and willingness to help. Please allow us to introduce you to our MCYA-USA. You will find it to be a terrific place to minister for Christ! The formal name of MCYA-USA is Siux Nin Bang Wuic-USA.. Which translates to Youth Congregation Camp-USA. This ministry started twelve years ago. And as our Christian brothers and sisters continue in providing support, it will continue to minister to the young people of the Mienh Communities in America. Financially, we are a self-support ministry drawing income solely from camp registration fees. All of our staff people are serving on a volunteer basis. Nearly 75% of our camp staff personnel help us out by paying their own registration fees. Each year, we make an effort to attract 300 to 350 campers. In the past these campers have come from as north as Vancouver, Canada and as far south as Long Beach, California. We have an average of 300 campers per year. The majority of the campers are from the San Francisco/Bay Area. Nearly 80% of the campers live in impoverished inner-city situations which bring along many other problems. Many of our campers are from non-Christian homes and as a result, many of them turn to the streets seeking attention and support from wherever they can find it. Gangs are very typical of this alternative form of family structure. Once into the gagns, many kids get caught in a web of crime, drugs, fornication, etc.. Whatever the "crack" in society they have fallen through, there is little hope for them unless we bring them into the family of Jesus Christ. That is the primary purpose of MCYA-USA. The Mienhs are people from the hill tribe of Lao. Our people fought along with the American troops against the communists in Vietnam. After the fall of Vietnam, Lao was the first target of the communist aggression. Without the help of the Americans, our country fell quickly to the communists. Thousands of refugees escaped to Thailand. Praise the Lord, American Missionaries reached out to them and many gave their lives to Christ at the Thai refugee camps. Soon thousands of Mienh people (including the new christians) immigrated to the West Coast of USA. Most of these new Christians attached themselves to American Churches by using their facilities to worship God, e.g. the Mienh Church worship at First Baptist Church, Richmond, California, has 500 members and another similar size congregation worship in Sacramento, California.Currently, the MCYA-USA is being organized by young adults from the various Mienh Churches. Support and direction are provided by Mienh Church Leaders along with some advisory support from various Baptist Churches. Only 50% of our staff positions are filled now and in order for MCYA-USA to run efficiently, we will need to gather more staff people. Some of the areas of service include, but are not limited to are...Counselors, teachers, recreation staff, host chaperones, administrational assistants, transportation providers and whatever other talented people we can hope to get. Of the highest importance thought is in the area of counselling. As of right now, we only have enough experienced counselors to have a 1:20 ratio of counselors to campers. We would like to lower that down to at least 1:7, if not 1:5.Therefore, We are asking you to consider how you might have a part in this exciting ministry that God might be calling you to have a part of. Whether it be volunteering your time, praying for us, supporting us financially or even just telling someone else about our ministry, we are sure that God will bless you for your contribution. We would like to personally share with you about the MCYA-USA blessings that have come out of our ministry. Please feel free to contact us so that we can share with you more about our vision. |
